Step 5: While the patties start cooking, wash your hands again with soap and hot water before you go to the next step. This is very important because it keeps any germs from the raw food from getting spread to the cooked food. Also be sure that the bowl you used gets washed before it touches any other food.
Step 6: As the patties cook, watch to make sure they do not burn. The patties should turn dark brown on the bottom but not black. After five minutes of cooking, use the spatula to turn each patty over and let them cook for 5 minutes on the other side. *Just because the meat turns brown, doesn't mean it is done cooking. Make sure the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature kills germs*
Step 7: Use the cooking thermometer to make sure the inside of each patty is at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit. The thermometer should be inserted sideways to reach the middle of the patty. If the patty is less than 160 degrees, let it cook some more.
